Dr John Dack

BA(Hons) PhD PGDipMIT (distinction) MSc (distinction) MMus

Senior research fellow, lecturer & module leader

John was born in Kings Cross, London in 1950. He worked as a guitar teacher and music copyist before studying music as a mature student at Middlesex Polytechnic where he gained a BA (Hons).

He undertook postgraduate studies at Middlesex (PhD – director of studies: Denis Smalley), at City University (PGDipMIT and MSc: director of studies Simon Emmerson) and at Goldsmiths College (MMus: director of studies Craig Ayrey).

In addition to his work with Sonic Arts at Middlesex, is a Visiting Lecturer at Goldsmiths College Music Department and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He has also been invited to talk at postgraduate seminars and to give guest lectures at Sheffield University, Leeds University, Brighton University and De Montfort University. In 2002 he was presented with a "Meritorious Award for Research" by the International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics. John Dack (with Christine North) is also in the process of providing translations for the EARS (ElectroAcoustic Resources Site) project at De Montfort University. www.mti.dmu.ac.uk/EARS/
